YCSA Summer Programme

In Summer 2019, Maya was the Creative Programme Leader for the Youth Community Support Agency, Summer School for Black and Ethnic Minority Young People aged 11-16.

Maya devised and lead a month-long arts programme for young people as part of the over all summer programme

Alongside the arts programme, Maya assisted the youth workers, outside of arts facilitation and accompanied the young people on Friday field trips to Edinburgh Zoo, Troon Beach, Wiston Lodge outdoor adventure centre, and Dundee Victoria & Albert Museum to see the video exhibit.

Workshops were curated to connect to the context of the Friday field trip each week.

Engaging in one to one and group creative interactions with the young people, this long term facilitation provided a unique environment. Over time the friendships of the team grew and this trusting, communal dynamic, encouraged further creative interaction and development as the programme progressed.

Each day, the young people completed short term tasks, incorporating new creative skills such as weaving, collage, photography and print making, each element built on components for a long term group project where the children designed and created their own board games.

From counters, to boards to cards to rules, the young people spent the last week adapting and playing each others games.
